Situering

To introduce core concepts and theories regarding environmental ethics (EE). To confront students with the complexity of the domain of EE itself, within the context of a pluralistic, but not relativistic, approach. To make students aware of the necessity to approach environmental problems from a broad perspective (psychological, sociological, economical, political).

1. Introduction to ethics
2. First application: the ethics of using animals in science
3. Second application: climate change and the necessity of a global environmental ethic
4. Approaches to environmental ethics and value theories associated with different kinds of environmental ethics (utilitarian environmental ethic, animal rights theories, land ethic, biocentric ethic, ecocentric ethic, deep ecology)
